Telemedicine

In simple terms, telemedicine refers to the practice of health-related services and sharing of health-related information using electronic media and telecommunication technologies (like phone, video-conferencing facilities, etc.). It allows virtual and contact-less communication between a patient and a healthcare provider / doctor, when a physical or face-to-face interaction is not possible.

Telemedicine involves the delivery of health care services, where distance is a critical factor, by all health care professionals using information and communication technologies for the exchange of valid information for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease and injuries, research and evaluation, and for the continuing education of health care providers, all in the interests of advancing the health of individuals and their communities.

What are the advantages of telemedicine over regular, traditional medical practice?
Traditional practice
Several hours of waiting time (upto 8 hours) to consult the doctor in a regular clinic or hospital
A doctor may not be available near you when you need a consultation
Typically, the cost of a regular face-to-face consultation may go up to HKD 1000
You will have to carry all your medical records personally to have a successful consultation with a doctor
In cases of pandemic (such as COVID-19), you run the risk of infection by visiting a clinic or hospital for your consultation
Telemedicine
Almost immediate (usually within 15 mins of logging in) online consultation with a doctor on MediCall
You can find a doctor available online almost 24X7 on MediCall.
On MediCall, your online consultation may be as low as HKD 300
Your most recent medical records will be available and maintained digitally on MediCall (if you choose to allow) and can be easily accessed
You can have an online consultation at the tip of your fingers and at the ease of your house via MediCall
